In paganism, we assign all basic elements special properties. Fire is for passion and love, earth for healing and fertility, air for intelligence and creativity, water for intuition and wisdom. This is a theory on which our whole way of life is based on yet seems to be simply superstitious due to the lack of scientific evidence, just like many other New Age topics. Topics which are for the most part thought to be mere theories created for the primary purpose of understanding the universe from era which science had not yet existed. This perception however, is starting to fade as scientific discoveries (particularly in quantum physics, anthropology, biology and chemistry) start to prove theories which have existed since ancient times.
For example, recently, it was discovered that water actually carries a "memory" of its environment. At first sight, it may seem to have no great significance to New Age topics until you think of what we, as Wiccans and Pagans, view water to represent. Water represents intuition, wisdom and spirituality; water teaches us of things which we do not already know. Therefore, according to the Wiccan representation of water, it must either serve as a connection to a separate source of information which Wiccans can gain insight, or, it must be a source of information in itself. Either way, water is a link which we use to download data from the akasha (a storehouse of all thoughts past, present and future which exists within the universe) and use it to learn about specific subjects.
This great new discovery, stating that water has a memory and can store information, serves as evidence that Wiccan representations off the elements are valid and in this society, where we must see scientific evidence for virtually everything before we accept it, this validity will lead to a great ricochet causing more and more people to convert to Wicca and paganism. Thus within the next century, Wicca/Paganism will most likely become as influential as a religion as Catholicism and Christianity because so many people will convert to it!
So congratulate yourselves that you all are alive to witness a change that will forever change society. And hey, its just in time for 2012! Is that another crazy 2012 doomsday theory I hear??? I think so but I'll keep it to myself because i find those 2012 conspiracy theory dudes quite annoying and frankly paranoid. :P
